Inspired by the climate stripe dress worn by Mariana Castono Cano of 10 billion solutions, the initial designs for this scarf were created by our Heritage Skills Placement students back in 2023. Stripes of blues, burnt oranges and striking reds run through the warp, with a fuchsia silk running through the weft.
Wound, warped and woven here at Whitchurch Silk Mill on the collection of historic machinery, each one tells the story of the craftmanship in its making. This Limited Edition of just 21 scarves were woven on Loom 9, a 1960s dobby loom.
All 1,064 ends of silk were knotted by hand in house by our team of weavers to finish each scarf.
Dimensions approximately 18" x 63". Dry clean only. Scarf is silk organzine warp and a spun silk weft for a soft feel with a luxurious shine.
Whitchurch Silk Mill stands as a beacon of British industrial heritage, having been built in 1815 and still weaving silk in its original building. More than just a mill - a living museum too, preserving heritage machinery and keeping critically endangered crafts alive.
